Dog Food

Written by Selma Kennel

Choosing the right dog food can play a big part in your dogs and your balance. The key is to find a good food that works for you and your goals.

There are eleven different types of normal dog food that you can feed your dogs and puppies. Premium members have the option to make custom food for their dogs and puppies, depending on what they want. The pro about custom rations is you get to choose exactly how much Medicine/Vaccine (helps the health of your dog), Protein (helps the muscle tone), Fat (helps the condition), and Vitamin E (improves the coat) that you put in the ration, from a scale from low - medium - high (number scale of zero to six. Zero being the least and six being the most.). The con about custom rations and food is that it costs ten percent more than the normal food brands.

The eleven different brands of dog food include Pet House; which offers food types for all types of dogs, including show dogs. This ration is a good ration, for keeping them at their current condition, it also isn't as expensive. Another option is Top Dog Formulas. They offer specialty feed to help make the condition of muscle tone, grooming, and condition go up, but it is not recommended that it is fed to young puppies. Then there is Super Duper Formulas. The company only has two different types. One is for adults and the other is for puppies. This brand helps the numbers go up a little bit, but not much. The last is Old Boy. This brand is highly frowned upon by almost all members on ShowDog. Old Boy comes in both puppy and adult, but it doesn't nothing for the numbers, it has also been known to bring them down.

The way a majority of kennels organize feeds is their adult dogs are on Pet House for Adult Dogs, and the showing dogs are on Pet House for Show Dogs. The puppies are placed on Pet House for Puppies at birth for normal puppies or pups that are being sold, but they will have their sessioning and higher quality pups on a higher ration of either Super Duper Puppy Formula or, if they can, a 1777 Puppy Ration, but you have to make it as a custom ration. Many kennels will also put their older dogs on a 1777 Adult Ration if possible, but if not the Super Duper Adult Formula also works fine.

The last few things to remember about food is that you have to remember to change the food from puppy to adult when they turn fourteen days old. You also need to remember to not just go and spend all your money on food, because certain food choices can make you go broke fast depending on how many dogs you have. Last, but not least, always feed the dog what he or she needs (ex. the muscle tone is 20, but you keep feeding them the Top Dogs Muscle Tone Formula, you are basically just throwing away your money).
