Tips from the Pros

By Welsh Corgi Kennels

Cloudpointe was interviewed for this months Tips from the Pros! Thank you Cloudpointe for being a good sport and answering these questions!

Q: How did you pick your current breed?
--Well I have two so I'll explain how I picked both. I got into Leonbergers a long time ago in my SilverBell kennel and did so well with them that I had to continue in this kennel. As for Danes, I started showing them in RL and wanted a color project so I started them.

Q: Why did you pick your current breed?

--Leos are not very popular and I wanted a breed to work on with raising their ranking. Danes have a ton of colors and I wanted to see if I could do a color project.

Q: Do you have a certain FHing system?
--Usually it's the dogs of colors I do not need or that have very low SOP or SS.

Q: How do you know which girls to breed, and which girls to show?
--In Leos i choose my show girls on their SOP of it's high enough to finish I show her if it's a nice girl but not what I consider show-able I breed her to a higher SOP male. As for Danes I pick based on color and SOP. I try to keep my color project dogs in the mid-high SOP range but if it's a more rare color I'll keep even low SOP  I breed colors that I have to colors I do not have to see what the results bring.

Q: What puppy food do you think is best to use?
--Some people would argue but I use Pet House for Puppies. It's mid range in price and keeps all my pups easy enough to session.

Q: Is there a certain dog of yours that you adore?
--Well in Leos I had my all time favorite dog in my old kennel "CH SilverBell I'm the Best". She was a multiple group placer, 2x National BISS and #94 all-time top Leo. In this kennel I adore "Danois Kaylee" as she is my first homebred Dane to earn majors and I hope she will become my first home bred champ Dane.

Q: Out of all of your dogs, which one do you think has the best name?
--I really like "Danois Rodney" since not many people would name a dog Rodney.

Q: Would you say that your breed is a rare breed or a popular breed?
--Leos are what I would consider a mid range breed at #60. Danes are definitely a popular breed at #6.

Q: Would you help new kennels into your breed?
--I am more than willing to help people get into these wonderful breeds and tell them all the tips, offer quality dogs and pups, what is show-able/breed-able and any other info they are interested in.

Q: How did you find showdog?
--I got my first kennel in 2005 after searching for dog raising games on google. I was hooked that same day.

Q: What made you want to upgrade?
--I couldn't accomplish what I wanted as a basic. I wanted to pursue a breeding a showing project and improve a breed significantly. I accomplished that in Leos with at this time almost all of the current top Leos have my SilverBell lines in them.
